You've sourced your peptides, reconstituted them carefully, and followed a protocol — but something's off. This is more common than you'd think, and in most cases the issue isn't the compound itself. Here are the eight most common reasons peptide research doesn't produce expected results, and how to address each one.


1. Improper Storage Before and After Reconstitution

Lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides should be stored in a freezer at -20°C and kept away from light. Once reconstituted, most peptides are stable in the refrigerator at 2–8°C for 4–6 weeks. Storing reconstituted peptides at room temperature or in a warm environment accelerates degradation significantly.

Fix: Store unreconstituted vials in the freezer. Move to the fridge only after reconstitution, and use within the recommended window.


2. Using the Wrong Reconstitution Solution

Not all water is created equal. Tap water and standard distilled water can introduce contaminants and affect pH. Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is the standard for peptide reconstitution — the benzyl alcohol acts as a preservative and extends shelf life.

Fix: Always use pharmaceutical-grade bacteriostatic water for reconstitution.


3. Incorrect Reconstitution Ratio

Adding too much or too little BAC water affects your concentration, which directly impacts dosing accuracy. If your calculations are off, every dose will be off too.

Fix: Calculate your concentration carefully before reconstituting. For example: 5mg peptide + 2.5ml BAC water = 2mg per ml (200mcg per 0.1ml on an insulin syringe).


4. Peptide Quality and Purity

Low-purity peptides — anything below 98% — may contain residual solvents, by-products, or impurities that interfere with research outcomes. Always verify the Certificate of Analysis (COA) from your supplier.

5. Incorrect Injection Technique

Subcutaneous (SubQ) and intramuscular (IM) injections behave differently in terms of absorption rate. Using the wrong technique for a specific peptide can affect bioavailability.

Fix: Research the recommended administration route for each specific peptide in your protocol. Most research peptides use SubQ administration into the abdominal area.


6. Protocol Duration Too Short

Many researchers expect results within days. In reality, most peptide protocols require consistent application over several weeks before meaningful data can be collected.

Fix: Allow sufficient time — typically 4–12 weeks depending on the compound — before drawing conclusions from your research.


7. Freeze-Thaw Cycles

Repeatedly freezing and thawing a vial degrades peptide integrity over time. Each freeze-thaw cycle can break down the peptide chain.

Fix: Once a vial is reconstituted, keep it refrigerated and avoid refreezing. For unreconstituted vials, avoid removing them from the freezer unnecessarily.


8. Sourcing From Unverified Suppliers
